Singing zemiros around the Shabbos table has always been a treasured family tradition in the Goldberger family. Though an attorney by profession, Gus is a seventh-generation chazzan. Leading congregations, singing zemiros with his family, and playing the piano in a wide-variety of musical styles have always been Gus’ passions.
In the early Seventies, when his two sons (then called Earl and Emanuel) were seven and ten years old, Gus and his wife and life-partner, Betty, groomed them and their five-year-old sister Elana to share their singing talents with the Jewish community of Akron, Ohio (their hometown of fourteen years) under the name “Gus and the Three E’s”. Over the years, Gus composed eleven original Shabbos zemiros for the table and several davening melodies. It has been Gus’ life-long “impossible” dream to set the zemiros to professional arrangements and record them with his sons for posterity.
Under the guiding Hand of Hashem, the inspired leadership of Devorah Yocheved Caplan, the virtuosity of violinist Boris Savchuk of Ashdod, Israel and the beautiful arrangements of “Pianistro” Ilya Berdshadsky, we are proud to share this dream-come-true with you. Our hope is that you will enjoy these zemiros and perhaps even add one or two to your own Shabbos repertoire!
